In this puzzle, the first in this new beginner set, whoever’s turn it is to move (white or black) can checkmate in one. Note that the bottom left corner of the board is ‘a1’. This set is a little harder than the last beginner set of puzzles, so if you are struggling, revisit our previous puzzles and solution pages for tips on where to begin.
When you think you know the answers, send them in to us. We will publish the full solutions, and names of all those who sent us the correct answers, in our blog next week (if you would rather not be named, please say so!). If you want to see the current leader board, take a look at the solution page for last week’s puzzle.
Everyone who sends in their answers receives at least 1 point. If you send in at least one correct solution you receive 2 points, and those with two correct solutions receive 3 points. The puzzler with the highest score after the six week set of puzzles will win a solver badge/solver spots and a free chess lesson with the teacher of their choice!
A big thank you to everyone who competed in the last competition, and good luck with the new puzzle set!
Make sure you subscribe below to get notified of the solutions and next week’s checkmate in one puzzle the moment they are published!
