12/09/20 COMPETITION: checkmate in one move!

In this puzzle, the last in this beginner set, whoever’s turn it is to move (white or black) can checkmate in one. Note that the bottom left corner of the board is ‘a1’.

This final puzzle is a bit more challenging, so make sure you use all the skills you’ve learnt over the last six weeks and take your time to come up with the solutions! When you think you know the answers, send them in to us. We will publish the answers, and names of all those who sent us the correct solutions, in our blog next week (if you would rather not be named, please say so!). If you want to see the current leader board, take a look at the solution page for last week’s puzzle.

This is the sixth and final puzzle in this set, so make your answers count! Everyone who sends in their answers receives at least 1 point. If you send in at least one correct solution you receive 2 points, and those with two correct solutions receive 3 points. The puzzler with the highest score on Friday 18th September 2020 will win a solver badge and a free chess lesson with the teacher of their choice!

A big thank you to everyone who has competed so far, and good luck with the last puzzle in this set!

Make sure you subscribe below to get notified of the solutions and next week’s checkmate in one puzzle the moment they are published!
